Team H.K. Lee is the competition team that represents H.K. Lee's Academy of Taekwondo at various local, regional, and national championships. During the 2006 competition season, Team H.K. Lee participated in seven local and state level competitions, as well as the USAT Junior Olympics National Championship held in Atlanta , Georgia , and the USA Taekwondo National Championships, held in Cleveland , Ohio . Athletes on Team H.K. Lee posted an impressive 56 first place finishes, 43 second place finishes, and 36 third place finishes throughout the season, including four gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the national level, and nine Virginia State titles. Despite these impressive results, however, it is important to note that Team H.K. Lee does not focus on winning; the goal of each and every championship is for the athletes to improve themselves with the exchange of technical ideas of other teams and athletes.
The most unique aspect of Team H.K. Lee is its competition philosophy, which has been instilled in the athletes by Grandmaster H.K. Lee and head coach Master J.C. Thomas. Athletes are taught that every championship is an opportunity for improvement, and every improvement is a victory. In the eyes of their coaches and teachers, giving one-hundred percent effort at all times is the definition of a true winner. Ultimately, Team H.K. Lee's athletes are proud of their achievements, but always remain humble in victory and gracious in defeat.
